Big Walk Drop-In/Out and Changing Player Count

Plan a Big Walk campaign when not everyone can attend every session.

Direct answer

When the host starts, they choose a 2-player, 3-player or 4+ version of the world. Treat that choice as the minimum reliable group size. If attendance will vary, the official FAQ recommends choosing the lower number.

Do these in order

Shortest reliable path

  1. Count reliable players

Choose based on the people who can stay for the core session, not the largest possible guest list.

  2. Pick the lower world size when unsure

The official guidance says the selected number is closer to a minimum than a maximum.

  3. Allow extra friends to join

The selected world size does not cap the session; Big Walk supports up to 12 players.

  4. Keep the save owner constant

Changing attendance does not change who holds progress. The original host remains necessary for that journey.

  5. Restart only when the group agrees

Starting a different journey or changing host can separate progress. Decide before the session rather than mid-puzzle.
