Big Walk Can't Join Server or Keeps Timing Out

Join a friend's Big Walk session or isolate a cross-platform connection failure.

Direct answer

Confirm the original host is still in the session, generate a fresh Join Code, and make sure every player has the newest update available on their platform. Big Walk sessions end when the host stops; there is no persistent public server to reconnect to.

Do these in order

Shortest reliable path

  1. Confirm the host is still active

The host owns the live session and save. When the host stops, everyone disconnects and that session code is no longer useful.

  2. Create a fresh session

Have the save owner start the session again and share the newly generated Join Code.

  3. Match available updates

Check for updates on every platform. Crossplay can fail when one platform has not yet received the same build.

  4. Try the native friend route

If players are friends on the same platform, look for the host under friends' games instead of entering a code.

  5. Check platform services

Review Steam, PlayStation Network or Nintendo service status before changing routers or firewalls.

  6. Change host only as a test

A new host creates a different save. Use this to isolate the connection path, not as a substitute for the original progression save.

  7. Send a useful report

Include platform, region, game version, host platform, Join Code path, exact error and timestamp. Do not publish the code in the report.

Where these steps come from

Community links are problem evidence, not automatic proof that a workaround is correct. Official and platform sources control factual claims.
